MY MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE

Hello loves!  I hope everyone is having an amazing week and excited for the three day weekend...can I get a what what!?!  Today I'm so excited to finally be sharing with you my morning skincare routine.  I have been testing out skincare products for the last year trying to really solidify my go-to favorites and the products that bring out the best in my skin.  I'll be doing a four part skincare series that will go up every Friday covering my morning and nighttime skincare routine, my pampering favorites (i.e. masks & treatments) and my best tips & tricks for keeping wrinkles a bay and achieving that luminous glow.   Testing new products has been quite a journey, peppered with some new found loves and a bad reaction that landed me in the doctor's office having to get a cortisol shot (#beautybloggerproblems), but we're here and I'm ready to talk some skincare.

I included two pictures below of my skin sans makeup or retouching so you can see what my skin really looks like and its coloring & texture.  My main skincare concerns are redness, discoloration,  and a couple scars from me picking at pimples.  (I know, I hate myself as much as you hate me right now...unless you don't.)  My skin is usually combination, leaning more towards the dry side in winter months.  Now when I lived in NY my skin was straight up parched from September through April, but now that I live in Florida I notice my oil production has increased tending to more combination skin.  I am so lucky and grateful that I have never struggled with acne, only the occasional spot here and there, and I also have to throw some credit to my Mother.  I definitely believe part of having great skin is genetics and boy did I hit the jackpot.  The woman looks great for her age and has beautiful skin with little to no wrinkles.

For my morning routine I try to keep it as simple as possible.  After putting my hair up in a clip and throwing on a headband I’ll splash some warm water on my face and gently rub in a dime sized amount of The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Cool & Creamy Face Wash.  Next I’ll go in with my ProX by Olay Advance Cleansing System for a more thorough clean, lightly working the face brush around my face for about 60 seconds.  I love the cooling and minty effect of the face wash and find my skin reacts much better to tea tree oil than your standard salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide to ward off spots and any acne.  This is the only cleanser I will use to wash my face in the morning and if you are looking for a face wash to treat acne that won’t dry out your skin I would highly recommend this product.  I am also a big fan of the ProX by Olay Advance Cleansing System and have been using it for years.  It’s a fraction of the price of the popular Clarisonic and in my eyes just as effective.  It does a great job of exfoliating the skin, improving circulation, and lifting up dirt and blackheads from pores.  (And if you’re looking for an even more affordable facial brush try a baby hairbrush…sounds silly, but when my Mother and I visited the Ritz Carlton Spa in Sarasota the esthetician said this brush is just as effective at exfoliating and improving circulation while being very gentle on the skin.)

After rinsing my face I go in with two options depending on my mood and how my skin has been feeling.  If my skin feels like it’s lacking moisture I’ll go in with a couple drops of the Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment.  Out of all the skincare products I’ll be mentioning in this series this is probably one of it not my all-time favorite skincare product.  (And featured in this OG Brazen Brunette post HERE.)  It does such an amazing job of hydrating my skin without leaving it feeling greasy, works beautifully under makeup, and imparts my face with such a luminous healthy glow.  After using this product for years I have seen a positive improvement in the texture of my skin, reduced redness, and skin that looks and feels plump, youthful, and hydrated.  Seriously run, don’t walk to Sephora and pick yourself up this gem.  Ok, enough of my rambling…on other mornings where I don’t need as much hydration or I’m going makeup free I’ll rub a couple drops of the Tarte Maracuja Bronzing Serum onto my skin followed up with the  Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré (24-Hour Miracle Cream).  I find the Maracuja serum gives my skin an even and flattering bronzed glow as the day wears on, but doesn't provide enough moisture on its own hence it pairs beautifully with the lightweight moisturizer from French skincare line Embryolisse.  This all-star can work as a primer, an eye makeup remover, and a moisturizer, wears beautifully under makeup and is a phenomenal product every woman should have in her skincare arsenal.  Check out my full glowing review HERE.

What I love most about all of the products mentioned above are they leave my skin with such a healthy glow and have never irritated or broken out my sensitive skin.  As mentioned above with my ill fated run-in with the doctor I have had some bad reactions to skincare and if you are a sensitive skin gal like me you have my trusty oath these products will be kind to you.  I have also learned that by using oil based skincare my face in turn produces less oil on its own and appears less greasy throughout the day.  Saving $$ on oil blotting sheets is never a bad thing.  Okay peeps, we got through the morning skincare routine and if you’re still with me your loyalty and dedication to skincare is greatly appreciated.  Check back in the coming weeks to read my other posts in the series and I hope you have a wonderful labor day weekend!

xoxo Nicole
