Charlotte Tilbury Haul

For the past year or so I feel like Charlotte Tilbury beauty has infiltrated the makeup and skincare world and taken firm hold.  Every beauty blogger and YouTuber out there is talking about her revolutionary products and just can’t seem to get enough.  Not being able to help myself from jumping on the proverbial bandwagon I took the plunge and purchased three Charlotte Tilbury products on my most recent trip to NYC.  Now who is Charlotte Tilbury and why is she a big deal?  This fiery red head is a revered makeup artist and has worked with famous faces such as Kate Moss, Blake Lively, Rihanna, and Amal Clooney.  The UK native launched a very successful YouTube channel in 2012 and from this and her background and knowledge in the makeup and skincare realms Charlotte Tilbury Makeup was launched in 2013.  Originally her products were sold only in the UK, but recently Nordstrom has started carrying her line online and Bergdorf Goodman has a counter in their NYC store.

So for a little back story on how I got around to purchasing these products…. I am the type of person who has to physically try makeup on and touch and feel a product before I can buy it.  So although it’s great that Nordstrom carries Charlotte’s line online I didn’t feel comfortable just blind buying her products before trying anything in person.  Thus after a little research I learned one of the only stores that stocks Charlotte Tilbury’s physical line is the Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan.  Lucky for me I was in Manhattan recently and a Bergdorf trip was quickly put on the itinerary.  I told my friend who I was staying with all about Charlotte Tilbury and how we had to go to Bergdorf’s and while she looked at me like I was a crazy person, and couldn’t understand how someone could get so excited about makeup, she played along and agreed to join.   So on a crisp Manhattan morning we ventured to fifth avenue to shop with the elite crowd.  Upon exiting the subway en route to Charlotte Tilbury heaven we hit a bit of a snag….little did we know the Puerto Rican Day parade was being held on Fifth Avenue that day!  The melee was exhaustive but we trudged our way through the interminable crowds to the beacon of light that is Bergdorf Goodman.  (And although neither me nor my friend is Puerto Rican may I add the music was exceptional and I would like to think our sick dance moves blended right in.)

So what did I get?  My eyes, initially blinded by the stunning rose gold packaging was eventually able to set their sights on three products.  I purchased the Air Brush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro Powder in “02”, the 'Lip Cheat' Re-Size & Re-Shape Lip Liner in “Pink Venus”, and her 'Eyes to Mesmerise' Cream Eyeshadow in the shade “Jean.”  Keep reading to find out my thoughts on these products and what else is on my ever growing Charlotte Tilbury wish list…

I have been dying to get my hands on one of these lip liners ever since seeing Amelia Liana on YouTube rave about the quality and amazingness of Charlotte’s lip products.  Could this lip liner really be all that and a bag of chips?  Lip cheat promises a “rich, velvety lip liner that glides effortlessly over your lips and has the power to completely reshape, resize and balance your pout. It doesn't feather or transfer and will last up to 6 hours without smudging thanks to its waterproof formula.”  I went with the shade “Pink Venus” which is a neutral baby pink with coral undertones.   Now I’ll keep my review short and sweet here…I don’t think this is worth the money.  I think this is a good lipliner, but no better than much cheaper liners on the market.  (I love MAC’s lipliners.)  Sure the formula is creamy and easy to work with, but by no means would I call this waterproof and the color faded on me within a couple hours.  I don’t hate it, I just felt it didn’t live up to my expectations.  And while this is promoted to be a product you can over line your lips with I’m not about that #kyliejennerlipchallenge life.  I just wanted a great basic lip liner.  Pass.

To me this was the standout of the three and seriously the best face setting powder I have ever used.  I am all about finding drugstore alternatives (love Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powder), but the price of this product really shows in the texture, finish, and stunning packaging.  The quality is other level.  I mean, it’s crazy expensive I’ll give you that.  $45 for a makeup setting powder is insane.  But for reals, the proof is in the pudding.  If you want a gorgeous setting powder that will make you look like an angel this is an investment you won’t regret.

This super-luxe microfine powder has soft-focus nano particles that blur away fine lines, pores, and imperfections giving you a natural & glowy finish that almost looks diffused in the best of ways.  The texture of this powder is fabulous, velvety and incredibly finely milled, and when applied to the face it mattifies oil without ever looking powdery or caked on.  Even with touch ups throughout the day this product layers beautifully and never looks unnatural on the skin. I love to use my Real Techniques Powder brush to apply this, but any face powder brush will do.  The packaging is also stunning and features a large mirror, although I do wish the powder came with some kind of applicator or place for a puff to make for easy touch ups throughout the day.  I got the shade "02" and find this is a great match for me.  The line only comes in three shades "01" being the fairest and "03" targeted for deeper skin tones.

Last, but not least I was drawn to the the Eyes to Mesmerise cream eyeshadow display and Charlotte Tilbury’s most recent launch.  After trying out the range of shades I settled on a gorgeous everyday champagne color called “Jean.”  What really impressed me about these cream eyeshadows was the texture.  The formula is very soft and a mousse like consistency that dries to a powder finish.   You only need the tiniest bit of this product to cover your entire lid and I love to use my finger to apply and then quickly go in with a blending brush to diffuse any harsh edges.  The shades in this range are just stunning, the pigmentation superb, and the formula contains “soft-focus illuminating pigments” that leave your eyes mesmerizing, which I think was Charlotte’s point.  Now when I purchased this in NYC the sales rep insisted this eyeshadow wouldn’t crease and through a day of trudging around Manhattan and surviving a food festival he was right.  The formula stayed in place looking lovely and didn’t crease a bit.  Now when I returned to Florida I have worn this and it has been crease city, making eyeshadow primer a necessity.  Thus maybe depending on your climate this won’t crease on you?  I really can’t say.

So for my final thoughts on these products.  I do not think I would repurchase the cream eyeshadow or lip liner.  If I eventually move back to New York and find the eyeshadow is magically crease free there then maybe it will become a standby, but currently in Florida for me to pay that much for a cream eyeshadow that creases without a primer underneath, it's just not worth it.  I am in love with the Air Brush Flawless Finish Micro Powder.  This is the best makeup setting powder I have ever used and will definitely be a product that I repurchase.  I hope these quick reviews were helpful and inspire you to try some of Charlotte Tilbury's products.  Her line really is beautiful and next on my wish list is to try her blushers and 'Light Wonder' Youth-Boosting Perfect Skin Foundation.  What are you looking to try from Charlotte Tilbury's beauty range?  Or what have you tried that I need to get my hands on?  Let me know in the comments below!

xoxo Nicole
