lush starter kit

Going into Lush for the first time is definitely an experience.  Overwhelming would be the understatement of the world.  You got bath bombs, bubble bars, bath melts, shower smoothies....the list goes on and on.  (And who knew you could buy solid shampoo??)  LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics offers so many amazing and unique products but it can be hard to navigate what each product is and what it's used for.  That's where I step in.  I'm here to provide suggestions on what products to start out with, a LUSH starter kit if you will.   These are the best of the best in my opinion and by giving these products a go you're definitely getting the full LUSH experience.  Now by no means am I saying you have to buy all of these products, but these would be my suggestions if you're new to LUSH.

Now what is LUSH Cosmetics and why is it so great?  LUSH is a UK company that was founded in 1995 and rapidly gained popularity with their fresh and homemade skincare offerings.  All LUSH products are natural, made with fair trade ingredients, and the company is vocal about fighting against animal testing and promoting ethical campaigns through their platforms.  They have over 150 stores in the US, but you can also shop their website at   Personally I love using LUSH products because of their freshness and I feel like I am investing in such natural and high quality skincare without all the fillers and chemicals.  I also love what the company stands for and am a big proponent of fighting against animal testing.  Lastly the LUSH experience just feels personal.  Every time I have gone into a LUSH store the sales staff are so kind and helpful, you're able to try out all the products and get samples of anything you wish, and they even put little stickers on every item with a picture of who made it, where it was made, and an expiration date.  (That's how fresh this stuff is, it's no joke.)  So enough of my blabbering on about how much I love this company, keep reading to find out the items you just have to try...

lush bath bomb
L to R: Sunny Side Bubble Bar, Ceridwen's Cauldron Bath Melt, Big Blue Bath Bomb

Ok, so first things first you can't go into LUSH without picking up some items for your bath.  LUSH is the king of bath products and if you want a relaxing and luxurious bubble bath LUSH is the place to make that happen.  Now, LUSH has three main bath offerings: the bubble bar, the bath bomb (most popular), and the bath melt.  A bath melt is basically natural butters and loads of gorgeous essential oils in solid form that when put in your bath melt into your water and moisturize the skin.  My favorite is the Ceridwen's Cauldron Bath Melt ($8.45 for 2.8oz).  It's chock full of lavender, sandalwood, cocoa butter, and walnut oil and leaves your skin feel amazing paired with a decadent scent.  Next we have the bubble bar, which shockingly enough leaves your bath with heaps upon heaps of luxurious bubbles.  My pick is the citrus Sunny Side Bubble Bar ($7.25 for 3.5oz).  It smells like delicious tangerines and leaves your water shimmering gold.  How can you not be happy soaking in gold water??  We can all feel like King Midas.  Last, but definitely not least is the infamous bath bomb and LUSH's signature product.  It's an amazing fizzy ball for your bath that creates bubbles and oozes comforting essential oils.  My favorite is the Big Blue Bath Bomb ($6.40 for 6.3oz) for it's amazing beachy aroma and I love that it's packed with sea salt and seaweed.  Now with these bath products I find I can break up the bubble bar and reuse the bath melt several times, but the bath bomb is kinda a one shot deal for reference.

Next we have these lovely pots of glory.  I adore the Ocean Salt Face & Body Scrub ($21.95 for 4.2oz) as it's such an amazing face and body scrub.  I love that it can actually be used for your face and your body, and it smells like a margarita.  This is gentle but still effective at sloughing off dry skin and the salt feels like it almost dissolves as you rub it into the skin.  Packed with sea salt, fresh avocado and coconut this is an amazing scrub not to be missed.  Next is the African Paradise Shower Smoothie Body Conditioner ($39.95 for 8.8oz).  I think this is such a cool product and an offering I have not see at any other bath and body companies.  You basically rub it on your body after you cleanse, let it sit for a minute, and then rinse off and your skin is left moisturized and smelling amazing.  It's basically a hair conditioner for your body.  Now the Ro's Argan variety is definitely the most popular in the line, but I can't stand anything rose scented.  So if you like that give it ago, but I am all about this moringa, aloe, and shea butter variety.  And lastly are the amazingness that is LUSH fresh face masks.  These little wonders are only sold in stores and average $7 a pot.  They have so many wonderful varieties for all skin types and concerns, but I would have to say my stand-by is the Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask ($6.95 for 2.1oz).  This mask smells rank, I'm not gonna lie.  I just try not to inhale when it's on my face.'s really not THAT bad and the amazing benefits of this mask allow me to overlook the scent.  This gentle, but deep cleaning mask targets spots, oily areas and blackheads and contains egg whites, honey, tea tree oil, and garlic.  I love how this makes my skin feel and leaves me with a clear complexion and definitely mattifies oily spots.

(Quick tip: LUSH has an amazing recycling program.  Bring back five empty pots of any LUSH product and you will be gifted with a fresh face mask!)

Lush lip scrub lip balm

Two more all-stars to throw in the bag are LUSH's lip balm and lip scrub.  These products are both inexpensive, effective, and high quality.    I adore LUSH's Honey Trap Lip Balm ($7.25 for 0.3oz) filled with honey, peppermint, and white chocolate for a delectable concoction to soothe dry chapped lips.  Another signature LUSH products is the Mint Julips Lip Scrub ($9.95 for 09.oz).  This sugar scrub is a necessity for rocking those bright lip colors and I love that the directions instruct to just lick it off after you're done scrubbing away.  With less than five ingredients this natural scrub packed with vanilla, jojoba oil, peppermint, and castor sugar is a must in any beauty arsenal.

So there we have it!  A complete LUSH starter kit.  I could share with you some of my other LUSH loves, but we'll save that for another post as I feel this would quickly turn into an Emily Dickinson novel.  I adore each and every one of these products and feel they're a great group to get started with if you're new to LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics.  Leave me a comment below letting me know your favorite LUSH product, as I would love to hear any other items I should try!  Happy Friday everyone and hope you have a lovely weekend :)

xoxo Nicole
