DISAPPOINTING PRODUCTS

Disappointing Makeup Products

I feel like I am always trying out new products in a quest to find the best of the best for you guys, and while there are many gems there are also some duds.  (I have the money I flushed down the toilet purchasing these products to show for it.)  So learn from my mistakes, avoid impulse purchases, ask for samples, and always read reviews before purchasing an item.  And also keep in mind that just because a beauty blogger, or magazine, or YouTuber raves about a product doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to work for you.  So to sum it up the products below left me unimpressed.  And while I am aware that everyone has different skincare and makeup preferences I am just speaking from my own experience.  So don’t waste your money on these duds darlings!

  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner in 1999 - I know a lot of people are obsessed with these, but they just don't do it for me.  I find the eyeliner drags and tugs at my eyelid and does not go on smooth at all.  It has so-so lasting power and I could even get past that, but the color lacks opacity and this shade barely shows up on the lid.  I find have to reapply and reapply to get it to show up.  It's a bummer because Urban Decay has a great color range, but I strongly feel there are so many better eyeliners out there for the price point.
  • MAC Pro Longwear Eye Liner in Black Ice - Ok, I am not trying to hate on MAC eyeliners because they do make some great ones but this was seriously a bust.  Legitemately one of the worst eyeliners I have ever used.  It's dry, comes off as an almost blackish gray color instead of the deep jet black that I strive for and doesn't last at all.  I made the mistake of impulsively buying this in MAC one day without researching the product or looking up any reviews beforehand.  Lesson learned.
  • The Body Shop Aloe Vera Lip Care - Ughhh I had such high hopes for this!  I picked up this balm after hearing it raved about on YouTube, and the reviews promised intense hydration and praised it as being moisturizing.  This is a lie.  It goes on sticky and leaves my lips feeling no differently than when I applied it.  My hunt for a great simple lip balm continues, so if you have any recommendations please let me know in the comments below!
  • Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Rose Shimmer - People have endorsed these lip glossess like it's going out of style, but I really don’t see what all the fuss is about.  Yes they're not sticky, but besides that there's really nothing special about them, and they’re expensive! ($24 a tube) The color range is lacking in my opinion and I'm not a fan of the sponge tip applicator for hygienic reasons.  Don't waste your money on these, to me they're nothing special.  If you're in the market for a lipgloss I would recommend the NARS Lip Glosses or the Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss range. Hard pass on this one
  • Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara This wasn't horrible, but I was still disappointed.  I have been such a fan of the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara that I thought maybe this would be a new holy grail from the brand, but sadly that was not the case.  It was lengthening, but really lacked any volumizing properties and left my lashes looking blah.  It's not necessarily a bad mascara, but I just prefer the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes oodles more.
  • Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick - I have tried so hard to like these.  Like seriously, so hard.  I owned the Shimmer Brick in Rose and went out and purchased another one in Beige hoping my experience would be different.  (I feel like this relationship is turning into a bad ex-boyfriend that I just can't let go of.)  But despite my best efforts to fall in love I have been left unimpressed.  I feel they lack pigmentation and don't perform well for me as a highlighting product.  (These pale in comparison to my favorite highlighter featured HERE.) I find the shade Beige is a little frosty for me and doesn't suit my pale complexion with pink undertones well, and Rose isn’t pigmented enough for a blush but doesn’t suit me as a highlighter.  (I think these shades would be much better suited for darker skin tones.)  Now, these are advertised to be used with the Bobbi Brown Face Blender brush which I do not own.  So maybe using this brush with the product would make all the difference?  I don’t know.  If you own and use these two products together let me know!

And that is it!  I hope you enjoyed this post and while I try to keep everything on the blog mostly positive I felt it my due diligence to share with you the products that just didn't make the cut.  I hope you all are having a wonderful week and adjusting to daylight savings...I know I'm still struggling.  But last weekend I had a friend visiting from NY and had such a blast showing her around Tampa.  We went to this amazing donut shop called Perk's Donut Bar, toured the Florida Orange Groves Winery, and spent a night in St. Petersburg.  I think we're both still recovering from all the fun! If you want to see pictures from the weekend and probably one or ten adorable pictures of my dog Oliver you can follow me on instagram @brazenbrunette  Thanks again for stopping by and have an awesome week!
xoxo Nicole

  1. Nothing beats good old fashioned Vaseline in the small tubs for lip balm in my books! I've yet to find anything that rivals it, except maybe Carmex.

  2. You know what lip balm I still love, is that Bath & body works minty one that comes in the green tube. I am afraid to go in that store because of the strong odors, so I haven't bought it in years, but it's a classic. I am also obsessed with EOS, the mint one with the shea butter or whatever in it especially. I really like something with like a TINY bit of color, so the Nivea one you told me about is good but I don't think it's very moisturizing at all which is tragic. So when you find the holy grail please let me know. Maybe the holy grail is actually Bonne Belle lipsmackers in Dr. Pepper flavor???
