REVIEW: Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour in Alloy

Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour Alloy

Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour

A couple months back I was watching one of Essiebutton’s YouTube videos and couldn’t take my eyes off of her eyeshadow, it was a gorgeous unique color, almost an iridescent bronzey purple.  She went on to mention it in a favorites video as the Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour in Alloy and I went out that weekend and picked it up.  Using and testing out this bad boy for the past couple months I couldn’t wait to write a review for you guys and share my thoughts.  First off, this product retails for $24.00 for 0.3oz. and can be purchased at LauraMercier.com, and most major department stores.  (Sadly this item is not for sale at Sephora or Ulta Cosmetics.)  This is promoted as a waterproof and crease resistant cream eyeshadow that “gives eye lids a gorgeous shimmering sheen.”  Housed in a slim silver tube, almost resembling an art paint, the product is kept from drying out with a secure plastic screw top and while the packaging is nothing magical it’s sturdy and compact.  The consistency of the crème colour is very thick and when you squeeze on the tube only a tiny bit comes out at a time, which is fine because let me tell you this eye colour is opaque.  A tiny pin prick amount is enough to cover the whole lid in a sheer wash of shadow.

I like to use primer with this just because my shadows tend to crease on me throughout the day, but depending on how oily your eyelids are you may or may not need a primer with this.  (If you’re in the market for a budget friendly eyeshadow primer you can check out my recent post HERE.)  Nevertheless this had great staying power for me and didn’t crease when paired with a primer.   My favorite way to wear this is to squeeze a tiny bit out and pat and blend the cream on each eye.  It blends very easily with my fingertips, but I have also used a blending brush to disseminate the color and this has worked just as well.  After the color sets I apply some black liner to my upper lashes and finish off the look with a pink lip, my favorite of the moment is the YSL 'Rouge Volupté Sheer Candy' Glossy Lip Balm in Succulent Pomegrante.   Now keep in mind this is one of those products where the clock is ticking for you to move it around.   Make sure you do one eye at a time because there is only about 15 seconds or so until the shadow sets, and after that it ain’t moving.  What I really love is the versatility of this product.  For a sheer look you can pat a bit on each eyelid and blend out with your finger, or to appear more opaque pack on the color with a flat shader brush such as the MAC 242 to give an intense metallic look.  I will say if going for this technique, make sure you give the shadow time to completely dry before adding another layer or incorporating other shadows.

Three swatches of Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour in Alloy.  From L to R: Heavy swatch, slightly blended, and a sheer blend of color.  Just wanted to demonstrate the different ways you can wear this!

So would I recommend this product?  Yes and no.  For me the standout characteristic of this product is the color.  Described as a “metallic light brown with violet undertones” it is just absolutely stunning and so unique.  It also provides a gorgeous sheen without being glittery. Now the formula is good, but at this price point you can get good cream eyeshadows for much cheaper.  (Maybelline Color Tattoos, I’m looking at you.)  So I don’t regret purchasing this because I love the color and think it compliments my brown eyes well, but I don’t think I will purchase any more colors in the range.  Have you tried the Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour?  What is your favorite cream eyeshadow of the moment?  Let me know in the comments below.  Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

    1. Yeah that's how I felt. Love the color, but kind of pricey for a cream eyeshadow.
