MY YVES SAINT LAURENT LIP COLECTION - The Good, the Great & the Ugly

YSL Lip products
From L to R: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Voluptè Shine- #12 Coral Incandescent, YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lip Color 06 Rose Bergamasque, Yves Saint Laurent Voluptè Sheer Candy Glossy Balm Crystal Color in 04 Succulent Pomegranate, YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain #20 Rouge Enamel

To me Yves Saint Laurent is the epitome of luxurious makeup.  The packaging is to die for, the products are superb quality and they offer an outstanding color range.  I offer my thoughts and recommendation on four below, and hope this serves as an aid to navigate throughout the impressive range of ten lip products YSL offers.  All of these can be purchased at Sephora, most major department stores, and online.  (Nordstrom is one of my favorite online beauty retailers!) I hope this post is helpful and that everyone is having a fantastic week!

YSL Rouge Voluptè Shine in #12 Coral Incandescent
Described as a “Bright Cajun Coral,” Retails for $35.00
This is such a gorgeous reddish coral shade.  I usually wear this in the summer when I have a bit of a tan and it’s a beautiful statement lip.  The color is so unique and unlike anything else I have tried on the market.  Advertised as, “An innovative and comforting lipstick enhanced with fruit extracts rich in vitamins and antioxidants,”  I find this lipstick very moisturizing and even promises up to eight hours of hydration.   The color soaks right into the lips and leaves behind a pinky coral stain.  I would highly recommend this line if you are looking for a pigmented and moisturizing lipstick.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lip Color in 06 Rose Bergamasque
A glossy creamy nude with peachy pink undertones, Retails for $35.00
So the story behind this one…I was at Nordstrom’s beauty department in Tampa looking to try out the YSL Youth Liberator foundation and began chatting with the sales associate telling him about my quest for the perfect nude lip.  He then took it on as his personal mission to find this fair skinned girl with pink undertones the perfect nude lipstick and hooked me up with this gorgeous shade.  I am now obsessed and it seriously is the perfect nude for a pale skinned girl.  The packaging on this is gorgeous, presented in a modern gold case with the YSL logo engraved on the lipstick and a solid snap closure.  I find this lipstick is also very moisturizing, but has a tendency to cling to dry patches so lip exfoliation is a must.  (Shout out to Devon at the YSL Counter for being such a great help!)

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in #20 Rouge Enamel
Retails for $35.00
This is a very wearable slightly shimmery warm red shade that is exclusively sold at Sephora.  Advertised as “a revolutionary new lip product that combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long wear of a stain,” this one is sadly my least favorite of the bunch.   You can create a lovely glossy red lip with this, but high maintenance doesn’t even begin to cover it.  The doe foot applicator is awkward and I always struggle to apply the product evenly.  You have to keep dipping the applicator in to make sure the color is evenly applied or it will look patchy.  The Sephora instructions say to apply one coat, let it set, then apply another even coat leaving time for that to set and then you will have a long lasting lip color.  Who has time for that?  I need to apply and go.  And a tip, do not smack your lips together with this!  It leaves a very odd gummy residue.  This is what I have to do to make this work…I apply one coat, let it settle on my way to work.  Then blot with a tissue and using my Nivea “kiss of cherry” lip balm apply this and use it to even out and blend the color.  Do you sense my dedication?! (Hey, I can’t let a $35.00 lip product go to waste.) I have such a love/hate relationship with this product because it can provide a beautiful color and finish if you work with it, but for me it's just too much trouble.  It is my least favorite of the bunch.

Yves Saint Laurent Voluptè Sheer Candy Glossy Balm Crystal Color in 04 Succulent Pomegranate
Described as a “sheer bright pink with red undertones” Retails for $34.00
Some knock this as nothing more than a glossy lip balm, but I love it.   This is my favorite of the four YSL lip products I own and it is such a wearable candy pink shade that I definitely find myself reaching for the most.  I originally bought this because I heard it was the lip color Emily Maynard wore on the Bachelorette.  (Her makeup was so on point that season!)  Do I look like the gorgeous Emily when I wear this? Ehhh no, but hey it provides long lasting moisturization and leaves behind a pretty pink stain to my lips. It’s chock full of vitamins and antioxidant-rich fruit extracts and feels very lightweight on the lips.  Some of my other favorites in the line are the shades Mouthwatering Berry and Cool Guava.

In closure, I would probably not purchase another glossy stain.  I just don’t think they’re worth it for the price and I feel there are great dupes out there for much less.  (Rimmel Apocalips I’m looking at you!)  But for the other three I feel their standout trait is the unbelievable moisture they provide.  They are the most moisturizing lipsticks I have ever worn.  And they smell amazing!  It’s like a fruity mango scent.  Another element of these three lip products that show their superb quality is their ability to absorb into the lips.  With cheaper lip products the color will just sit atop the lips, but these absorb beautifully and do not feather, bleed, or settle into fine lines.  They are also super lightweight and comfortable to wear.  And my gosh they should be for the price!  But in my opinion these three are worth it.

Hope everyone is having a good week and getting excited for the Spring 2015 beauty launches.  Has anyone tried the new YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil Lip Glosses? I can’t wait to get my hands on one.  Have you tried any of the YSL lip products?  Leave me a comment below letting me know your favorite and any recommendations!

  2. What lipstick/lipgloss/lip stain would you recommend for someone who never wears lipstick and doesn't want anything too obvious.

    1. I would highly recommend the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments...they're super moisturizing, come in a ton of different colors, and provide a very natural look. Two of my personal favorites are the Honey and Rose shades. Here is the Link... Hope this helps!

  3. Mmmm am loving all those colors!! I need them all now!!
