FRIDAY FAVORITE-TARTE BLUSH IN EXPOSED

tarte blush exposed

Let me tell you a story about me and blush.  Growing up as a young ingénue on the mean streets of Syracuse, NY to say my face developed a round shape would not be serving it justice.  I was a chubby kid with big rosy cheeks and the idea of putting blush on those bad boys, accentuating their enormity, haunted my dreams.  As I grew up and began experimenting with makeup in high school you could not pay me to wear blush.  (During this time I also went through a phase of wearing eyeliner and lipstick but not wearing any face makeup, lovely.)  I always thought blush looked great on other people, but just never thought it looked good on me.  As I got older and started learning more about makeup I learned that blush can actually add so much to a makeup look, it's not something to be afraid of, and if you find the right shade for your skin tone you won't look like a clown.

I am now proud to announce that I have gotten over my blush phobia and own two blush palettes and have accumulated five individual blushes.  A small collection I know, but trust me I have tried many to get to the batch I currently own.  As a confession I did not even start wearing blush on a regular basis until 2013.  So, I present to you for this week’s Friday Favorite the best blush in the whole world.  (Okay, that may be pushing it, but I'm enamored.)  Tarte's Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed checks all my boxes: it's long lasting, it's natural looking, it's near impossible to over do and it's not packed with shimmer or glitter.  Seriously, this is the most flattering blush I have ever worn.  You can find it at UltaSephora, or tartecosmetics.com and it retails for $26 for 0.2oz

Tarte describes the product as, “Infused with natural clay harvested from the banks of the Amazon River and naturally baked by the sun, this nutrient-rich blush benefits all skin types for a fade-free flawless finish that lasts an amazing 12 hours.” Okay a little hokey I know, but Tarte uses all natural ingredients and doesn’t test on animals, so we’ll give them that.  This blush is suitable for all skin types because the clay will absorb excess oil if you have oily skin and dry skin will benefit from the clay’s nourishing and hydrating properties.   The texture of this blush presents as hard in the pan, but when swatched feels smoother and a bit creamier.  They really melt into the skin as opposed to sitting on top of it, like some other powder blushers.  It has buildable pigmentation, but I find it’s very hard to apply too much color with this.  Although it appears almost light brown in the pan it applies a light pinky nude with a matte finish.  It goes with so many looks and really does last on my cheeks all day.  I love that this product can also be used as a blush/contour hybrid because of its bronze undertones and my favorite brush to apply it with is the Real Techniques Blush Brush.

  1. I've had my eye on this blush for a while- it sounds like such a nice neutral shade! My current favorite blush is Streak from the Naked Flush palette. :)

  2. I too suffer from blush phobia - I feel like every time I notice it that means something went horribly wrong. But I've started applying a super light layer during daytime looks, and I might be almost ready to go back to Sephora and get a lesson... almost. Great post!
