For those of you who haven’t heard there is a new beauty subscription box on the block….step aside ipsy and birchbox, boxycharm has arrived.  I cannot say enough good things about this company.  First let me give you a brief overview… The website states, “BOXYCHARM is a beauty box subscription that surprises you each month with the best beauty products from popular and chic brands.  From nail care, to the hottest hair products, to the top skin care and cosmetics, we’ll have your head-to-toe beauty needs covered!”  The box is $21 a month, you will receive approximately five FULL SIZE products in each box, and they feature higher end brands such as Tarte, Tarina Tarantino, and Nars.  As with all subscription boxes you can’t pick what you are going to get so it is basically a crapshoot, but I have really liked what I have received thus far. I really like boxy charm because I feel you get a lot more for your money and I like that the products are full size.  Yes, it is double the price of ipsy bag and birchbox but I have been disappointed as of late in the small samples and lack of selection in these two.  Also, there is no waiting list to get onto boxycharm and they have great customer service (I received a broken lipstick in my August box and after emailing them they quickly replied and sent me a replacement in my September box.) Now let’s get to the products in September’s box.

BOXYCHARM September 2014

1    Tarte Lipsurgence lip gloss in Tipsy
Can you ever have too many lip glosses?  Although I probably didn’t need this product I was pleasantly surprised to receive a full sized lip gloss from tarte.  The color is a pretty peach color and would look great alone as a semi-sheer gloss or over a nude or pink lipstick.  The card recommends the lipgloss be worn over their Lipsurgence lip tints, I don’t own any of these so it may be a knockout combo, but I will have to take tarte’s word on this.  Was I blown away by this product? Not quite, but it’s a nice basic lipgloss. Retails for $18, 8ml.

2    Coastal Scents Go Palette in Beijing
This palette is advertised as full size, but it is very small.  I liked the color selection is this palette and found they were very easy to blend.  Now these are not the most pigmented eyeshadows I have ever used, but they get the job done.  This is probably not something I would have bought otherwise, but I think it will be great for traveling.  Retails for $12.95, 0.28 oz.

3    NCLA Nail Lacquer in Call my agent
I was so excited to see this in my box! I have heard great things about this nail brand and was on the hunt for the perfect bright orangey red…my prayers were answered.  The application of this polish was very smooth, the color was very opaque and covered easily in two coats.  I used this in conjunction with my Essie base and top coat and it stayed on for a solid week and a half with minimal chipping.  Excited to try out other colors from this line! Retails for $16.00, 15ml.

4    Tarina Tarantino Fleur de Lash mascara (Limited edition)
This mascara was described as “A superior formulation that thickens and lengthens for maximum volume lashes in a sleek, limited edition gunmetal tube.”  The mascara was very volumizing and didn’t clump, but I usually look for something a little more lengthening.  The wand is very full and reminds me of the diorshow mascara brush wand for reference.  The mascara stayed put all day without flaking and came off easily with my face wash.  I think for me this is a good base mascara but would probably use it with another more lengthening mascara for a fuller effect.  Retails for $19.00, 0.47 fl oz.

5    Hello By Harvey Prince Fragrance
When I first saw this in the box I was unsure if I would like it, I remember getting a sample of a Harvey Prince fragrance a couple years back in a birchbox and not being a fan.  But my was I pleasantly surprised, I love this fragrance! It is very crisp and fresh and not overpowering.  I feel women of all ages could wear this perfume.  The notes are described as meyer lemon, white grapefruit, and Satsuma mandarin.  As soon as I saw the word Satsuma I knew it would be true love (The Satsuma line from the body shop is my favorite fragrance of life, if you have not smelled this stuff go now, your nose will thank me.)  The fragrance is in spritz packaging which I like and the staying power is decent, but I found I need to re-apply around late afternoon or before going out.  The tube is advertised as full-size at 10ml, and would be perfect for traveling or throwing in a handbag. Retails for $29.00.

Hello Harvery Prince

So that is everything is this month’s BOXYCHARM.  The box had a value of  $95.95 and I paid only $21, not a bad deal.  Have you guys tried BOXYCHARM? Are there any other subscription boxes I am missing out that I should try?  Let me know your thoughts!
