FRIDAY FAVORITE-Tarina Tarantino Conditioning Lip Sheens

I thought I would start a weekly post on here dubbed “Friday Favorite.”  I’ll pick one product or something I have been loving each week that has gone into the vault as an all time favorite and share it with you guys. My brain is already churning with lots of holy grail products I can’t wait to share with you, so make sure to check back every week!
This week for my first Friday Favorite I am going to be talking about these new Tarina Tarantino conditioning lip sheens.  I got the color Showroom in a recent BOXYCHARM box and loved it so much I went out and bought this other stunner in the color Queen Alice.  First off, the packaging on these beauties is divine.  What girl’s heart doesn’t go pitter patter for some rhinestone embellishments?  The formula of the lipsheen is very unique and unlike anything I own in my collection.  They are advertised as a lightweight medium coverage lipstick with moisturizing properties.   Moisturizing they definitely are and the texture in my opinion is somewhat of a glossy lipstick.  The color payoff is great and the pigment will last on my lips for several hours, usually having to touch up only after lunch.  Showroom is a milky white pink and would look great with a smokey eye.  Where Queen Alice is a dusty rose and a great color for fall.  The lipstick retails for $22.00 and there are 12 colors in the range.  I definitely have my eye on a great nude in the range called Leatherette as my next purchase.

Josie Maran Haul
From Left: Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk, Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee & Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow

I have always been a big fan of the Josie Maran brand and think they offer great all natural and cruelty free products.  Well we all know Ms. Maran started it all with the Argan oil, but my how the brand has expanded since its inception.  Wanting to branch out from some of the staples I love I went ahead and purchased the three products seen above.

Josie Maran Hydrating Milk

This Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment is definitely going in the vault as an all-time favorite.  I just can’t say enough good things about it.  I want you to put oil on your face you say? Yes!  The way the Sephora saleswoman explained this to me is that by putting oil on your skin the face produces less oil on it’s own because it is getting it from the product.  Thus even if you don’t have dry skin and have oily skin you can benefit, and maybe even more so from a face oil. As the Josie Maran website states, “This revolutionary treatment serum pairs the deep hydration of purified water with skin-rejuvenating micro-droplets of Josie’s 100% Pure Argan Oil."  What I love about this is it is basically a diluted version of the basic Argan oil.  For those of us who felt that product was too heavy, this is perfect because it’s tailored for the face, works great under makeup, and leaves a nice glow to the skin.  (I tried using the original Argan oil under makeup=disaster.)  Within a couple weeks of using it I definitely noticed a decrease in the amount of black heads on the sides of my nose and chin area.  I like to use this in the morning under my makeup and squeeze three to four droplets on the back of my hand, then pat it onto the skin.  The Josie Maran website recommends following this with their Pure Argan oil or Pure Argan oil light, I personally feel this step is completely unnecessary.  Unless you are an Eskimo in Alaska, trust me this should be enough hydration for you.  I would highly recommend this to everyone, but if you are still on the fence go to your local Sephora and ask for a sample of this product to try it out.
Retails for $56.oo for 2 fl oz.

Josie maran coconut watercolor cheek gelee

Next I branched out and tried the coconut watercolor cheek gelee in poppy paradise.  This is advertised as a hydrating cheek stain containing pure coconut water, 100% argan oil, and vitamin E for added nourishment.  The product also promises 14 hours of wear.  I have not personally worn it for 14 hours (who is wearing their blush this long?) but I will say it does have great staying power.  I like applying this product with a stippling brush, dipping the brush right into the pot and then buffing it onto the cheeks.  And a little goes a long way.  I also find this works great as a lip stain, and love the color it gives, a somewhat vibrant pinky red.  But I will say I would recommend using a lip brush, because if you use your finger it will stain and even when you try to clean it off with a makeup wipe it will still be there, trust from experience.  So overall I think this is a great product, but I don’t find myself reaching for it as much as I thought I would, probably because it just takes a little more effort and time to apply than a powder blush.
Retails for $22.00 for 0.18oz.

Josie Maran coconut watercolor eyeshadow

And lastly I grabbed one of the coconut watercolor eyeshadows in Playa del Pink.  I have heard so many good things about these shadows and just had to try them out.  There are things I like about this product and things I dislike.  First the pros: the eyeshadow has good color payoff, it’s very easy to apply and there are some great colors in the range.  The eyeshadow comes in this little dropper bottle which you have to shake before using.  With the felt tip applicator, I dot a little shadow on each eye and blend. (This is also another one where a little goes a long way.)  The cons: the staying power on this is not great.  If I don’t wear a primer under this eyeshadow it has all, but disappeared by lunchtime.  If I do wear a primer the staying power is much better but I still notice it fading throughout the day.  Also I do like the color but I expected it to be more vibrant or to have more of a pop.  You can easily replicate these colors with powder shadows, which was disappointing to me because I was hoping this would produce a different look being it’s coconut water based.  So is it a cool and different product? Yes.  Would I purchase more? Probably not.

Retails for $18.00 for 0.16 fl oz.

As the Spanish proverb says, “He, who would bring home the wealth of the Indies must carry the wealth of the Indies with him.”

1. Focus on the good in your life.
If you focus on the good, you will draw more good towards you.  It is really easy to focus on the negative and everything that is going wrong, but it will make you much happier to try to focus on the good things.  Many people do this by keeping a gratitude journal, and writing down a couple things they are grateful for every night.  Something I do that I find even easier is I added a gratitude note on my phone, and before I go to bed each night I put in one nice thing that happened that day or something that made me smile.  It can be as silly as my breakfast totally rocked, or someone let me in while stuck in traffic.  And then when I’m feeling down I read over the list and it usually makes me feel silly about whatever's making me upset.

2. Plan things to look forward to.
I think this is so important because when we feel like we’re having a bad day we can think about a trip or an outing that we have coming up that we’re excited about.  Haven’t you ever heard sometimes the best part of a trip is planning it and the anticipation building up to it?  On the same token spend your money on experiences and not things.  The memories of a great trip will last with you longer than that new handbag.

This picture was taken from a spontaneous girls weekend we took in Saratoga Springs.  We had so much fun and I’m so happy we went!
3. Take some time out for yourself.
Sometimes during the week I can get so busy and worked up about everything going on that I forget to take time out for myself.  To just unwind, put the phone down for an hour and relax. One of my favorite things to do is to take a bath or read a book.  Another great idea for trying to quiet your mind is to utilize meditation or breathing exercises.  A great website to try is  They have 2, 5, and 10 minute guided meditations and it’s free!  I know some people who do these every morning before they start their day and it really helps them quell any anxiety they’re experiencing or stress they’re under.

4. Stop Complaining!
I am so guilty of this myself, but I’m trying to stop!  First of all no one really wants to hear about your crazy roommate or that you stubbed your toe this morning.  And I have noticed that if you hang around negative people who are complaining all the time you will start to feel negative too.  Haven’t you ever met someone who is really positive and upbeat and you are just drawn to their energy? Yeah, I’m trying to be more like that.

5. Put yourself in an atmosphere of growth.
One of my favorite books, The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin talks about the importance of putting yourself in an atmosphere of growth.  The book referenced information from studies that were done that found that it is not necessarily accomplishing something or reaching a milestone that is rewarding but it is the process that it took to get there that provided happiness.  It is the feeling that we are growing as a person and learning new things and meeting new people.  As Ms. Rubin states, "The arrival fallacy is the belief that when you arrive at a certain destination, you’ll be happy…The challenge therefore is to take pleasure in the “atmosphere of growth,” in the gradual progress made toward a goal in the present."  Learn something new, keep your mind stimulated.

6. You know what, it’s probably not that big of a deal…
I think all of us are sometimes guilty of catastrophizing situations.  We put our foot in our mouth or mess up at work and think it’s the end of the world.  I think one of the best quotes to remember is “People are not against you, they are for themselves.”  Most people won’t notice whatever embarrassing thing you did or mistake you made because they are too focused on themselves.  It is best to own up to whatever happened, take a deep breath, and move on.

7. Take pride in your physical appearance.
We all have those days when we feel like crap, but for me dressing up usually makes me feel better and boosts my confidence.  There are definitely those days when I want to sit in my pajamas all day watching Will & Grace re-runs and eating non-dairy ice cream, but I gotta pull it together or I may never leave my couch.  Taking a bath, putting a cute outfit on and some bright lipstick usually lifts my spirits.  It’s important to be confident in how you present yourself to the world and to show up for your life.

8. Go for a run…
Or whatever gets your blood pumping.  Endorphins are no joke people.  Exercise is a great stress reliever, good for digestion, and gets that blood pumping.  As bad of a mood as I'm in I usually feel much better after going for a run, taking my dog for a long walk, or popping in a yoga DVD.  I also think it’s beneficial to exercise outside if you can, and it’s very calming to be around nature.

9. Get a good night’s sleep.
If I don’t get at least seven hours of sleep a night I am one grumpy girl.  And for good reason, sleep is so important for our daily functioning and impacts not only our physical, but our mental health.  While we sleep we give the body a chance to repair itself, build our immune system, decrease stress, and keep our hormone levels stable.  Stick to a sleep schedule, create a bedtime ritual, and include some physical activity in your day.  These simple changes should improve the quality of your sleep.  And if for no other reason than vanity, get those eight hours, because we all know baggy and puffy eyes is not a good look.

I couldn't help adding a picture of my pup Oliver.  How can you be sad looking at that face?

So there you have it, those are my nine tips for being happier.  What do you you guys do to stay happy?

I have been eyeing these few items for a while and when I recently got a promo code for my birthday I took the plunge.  The Bobbi Brown brand is relatively new to me and although I try my best to experiment with lots of different brands Bobbi Brown is one I haven’t really explored yet.

Bobbi Brown Haul

First off is this Beach body oil.  If you have not smelled the Bobbi Brown Beach line, you are missing out, it is heavenly.  It smells exactly as it is described, like the beach!  The website describes the scent as “a lightly intoxicating blend of sand jasmine, sea spray, and mandarin.” I personally feel it smells a bit like Coppertone sunscreen, but all the same the scent is comforting and puts me in a great mood.  This body oil is very moisturizing and leaves a nice sheen to the skin, containing four essential oils (olive, sesame, avocado and jojoba) and vitamins E and C.  I love the product itself, but the packaging leaves something to be desired.  After reading lots of reviews on the feeling seems to be mutual. The product is packaged in a glass bottle with a screw on top making it very difficult to pour out and use the product without wasting it or making a mess.  In the reviews I read a lot of people went to the dollar store and bought a cheap spray bottle and poured the oil into it and used it that way...I think a trip to the dollar store is in my near future.  So in conclusion, love the product, but for $32.00 for 3.4 fl oz I wish they had thought of better packaging.

Bobbi Brown Beach Body Oil

Second, is this eyeshadow in camel.  I have never used Bobbi Brown eyeshadows before and I have to say I am highly impressed! I have tried everything from MAC to Urban Decay, to Makeup Geek and this shadow is a standout in pigment, blendability, and longevity on the lids.  I primed my eyelids with Too Faced shadow insurance and this eyeshadow stayed put and looking vibrant all day, even through a Pure Barre class.  And the color itself I am in love with, I find it very complementary to brown eyes and it is advertised as a matte “medium caramel.”  I find it would work as an allover lid color (as you see pictured here) or as a transition shade.  I highly recommend and plan on adding more to my collection. $22.00 for 0.08oz

And last but not least is this beauty.  A Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in the color Beige.  I heard about this from watching one of Jacyln Hill’s tutorials on YouTube and thought it was such a gorgeous everyday highlighter.  I was apprehensive to get another shimmer brick as I already own one in the color Rose, and don’t get much use out of it.  (Honestly this may be my own fault as I bought it with the intention of using it as a blush and it’s really designed as more of a highlighter.)  Now after speaking with a Bobbi Brown representative at my local Nordstrom she said the way the shimmer bricks are designed to be used are with their face blender brush and brushed all over the face for a subtle glow.  Personally, that’s not really my jam and too shimmery for my taste.  The way I like to use this is as a highlighter applied on the top of the cheek bones with the Sigma tapered highlighter brush then, down the bridge of the nose, on the brown bone, inner tear duct and swept over the cupids bow.  The color is gorgeous, very versatile and lasts on my face all day.  Also one thing to note is that this product has NO glitter in it, which I love!  It is strictly a very fine milled shimmer.  This would look good on skin of all ages, but will probably show up best on fairer skin tones.  As you can see by the pictures the powder is so finely milled with a subtle glow that it is hard to get a decent swatch out of it, but I ensure it looks glowing on the skin.  I would say this is similar to theBalm’s Mary-lou Manizer, but a little less intense.  Retails for $44.00 for 0.4 oz.
