NYE Makeup look

Is everyone ready for New Years Eve?!?  This is a quick makeup look I put together that I'm gonna be rocking Wednesday night.  It's my take on a softer smokey eye and I paired it with a pale pink cheek and a glossy nude pink lip.  I think I'm going wear a bright pink shift dress with a statement necklace and think this makeup will go great with that look.  I don't know what shoes I'm going to wear yet, but hey don't expect me to have it all together.  I'm still trying to squeeze in a juice cleanse before Wednesday.

NYE makeup look

So for starters I used It Cosmetics! Bye Bye Redness cream as my foundation applying a little more to my cheeks and blending in with a foundation brush.  (I don't know about you, but get a couple of glasses of vino in me and the cheeks are a flaming. The more coverage the better.) After that I primed my eyes with the Too Faced Shadow Insurance and while that dried I filled in my eyebrows with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in the color Soft Brown.

Now on to the shadows... For this look I only used eyeshadows from the Stila In The Light Palette (I love this palette, and it works great for so many looks, highly recommend!).  I started off applying "Nightsky" all over the lid and then blending that into the crease with "Bliss."  Next I accentuated the outer corner by packing "Luster" on the outer third and then blending that out.  Using a thin brush I lined the lid with "Ebony" and tight lined using this black pro longwear eyeliner in "Black Ice" by MAC Cosmetics.  Now before I smoked out the lower lash line I wanted to do my under eye concealer, using Sephora's Smoothing & Brightening Concealer in 02 Radiant Vanilla to brighten up that area.  I also spot concealed covering up any blemishes or discolorations with The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade "Vanilla."  Following I went and lined my inner rim with the MAC liner and using a pencil brush smoked out the lower lash line with "Ebony" topped with a little "Luster."  I highlighted under the brow bone with "Bare" and the inner tear duct with "Kitten" bringing it in a little ways on the lower lash line.

No one wants to be an shine ball next to the mirror ball so I powdered my face with my go to powder, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent, and threw this in my clutch for touch ups throughout the night.  I did some light contouring with this mini matte bronzer (isn't it adorable?!) by Too Faced in the shade "Chocolate," dusted the cheeks with a pale pink blush from this NARS Guy Bourdin Palette in "Mistinguette" and highlighted the cheekbones with a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in "Beige." Now for lots and lots of mascara.  I have been loving the Tarte Lights Camera Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara  and I recommend coating the bottom lashes with Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara to ensure a smudge free night.

And last but not least for the lips.  I lined them with the Rimmel London Exaggerate Lip Liner in "East End Snob," Layered with this Tarina Tarantino Conditioning Lip Sheen in Pink Elephant and topped with a little Bite Beauty Lush Fruit Lip Gloss in "Rambutan."

Stila in the light palette

And we’re done!  I know this look is subtler than most NYE makeup looks you’ll see, but I didn’t want the eyes to come off too harsh (and I’m hoping to win the men over with my long legs and glowing personality J.)  2014 has been an amazing year with a lot of changes and I can’t wait to see what 2015 brings.  Ideally in 2015 I would like to be given unlimited hours to watch Netflix, find men that actually want relationships, obtain Jamie Chung’s closet and be granted the ability to lose weight by eating cake.  Maybe a tad unrealistic, but hey a girl can dream.  I hope you like this look and have an absolutely amazing New Year’s this year.  Leave me a comment below letting me know what makeup look you’ll be rocking this Wednesday!

FRIDAY FAVORITE - Winter Nail Polishes

winter nail polish

I have a horrible habit of picking my nails and cuticles, especially when I’m stressed out.  It’s a problem and I’m trying to stop.  Well over the years I have accumulated a pretty sizable nail polish collection hoping the beautiful colors and finishes would help me kick my bad habit to the wayside.  And while my plan has not always worked, the nail polish hues I present below are so gorgeous I won’t even think of letting my bad habit rear it’s ugly head.  So I’ve picked six of my all time favorite nail polishes for winter for this week’s Friday Favorite.  I hope you enjoy my selections, and leave me a comment below letting me know your favorite winter nail polish!

Essie Hot Coco - This shade is a gorgeous winter color, a warm cozy light brown with grey undertones.  It seriously goes with everything and looks gorgeous on everyone.  Now is it really the color of Hot Coco? ehhh I would beg to differ.  This has a lot more grey undertones, which I’m guessing probably wouldn’t be appetizing in a hot beverage.

OPI Malaga Wine - Love me a deep berry shade.  OPI hits all the marks with this one delivering a classic deep red/burgundy that you just can’t go wrong with.  I like to wear deeper reds this time of year and this will look gorgeous on those manicured hands attending holiday parties.

Essie Marshmallow- It took me so long to hunt down the perfect white nail shade and in Essie’s Marshmallow I have found it.  This color is opaque, but not chalky and goopy looking and it’s a great staple shade to have in any nail polish collection.  It’s perfect for this time of year and considering how pale I am currently my hand and nails will probably just blend into the snow wearing this one.

Essie No More Film - I feel so cool when I wear this one.  My cool factor probably just went down about 10 points because I just said that, but anyways I adore this navy shade.  It’s deep and mysterious and the formula is so opaque and long lasting.

Butter London Muggins - I am obsessed with this color.  Is it lilac? Is it grey?  We don’t know, but it’s fabulous.  This is such a chic shade and these Butter London nail polishes stay on foreverrr.  Seriously obsessed, you need this nail polish.

Nicole By OPI on a Gilt Trip - I am usually not a fan of glitter nail polish, but I got this lacquer in a recent Ipsy bag and was pleasantly surprised with how evenly it applied.  You can totally wear this on it’s own and the gold glitter evenly coats the nail.  It’s so gorgeous and festive!

In this picture I'm rocking the shade No More Film by Essie.  Let me get on with my bad self...

And those are my picks for my favorite winter nail polishes.  I hope you had an absolutely amazing holiday and were able to spend it with those you love.  Thank you for stopping by and leave me a comment letting me know your favorite nail varnish of the moment!

Christmas Decorations

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!  The holidays are by far my favorite time of year.  The twinkly lights, the music, the yummy cookies, I just can't get enough.  And moving down to Florida this past August from the polar vortex that known as Syracuse, NY, it has definitely been an adjustment gearing up for Christmas in 70 degree heat!

As much as I miss the gorgeous snow and bundling up in cozy scarves and coats, I can't say I miss driving in it. (You feel me, New Yorkers?)   I love Tampa, but lately it has been hard being away from my friends and family and sometimes feeling alone in this tropical climate.  I have been relying on some of my favorite things to do around the holidays to get me in that festive mood this time of year and have included some of my essentials in this post.  My family is flying in from New York today to spend the holidays in Tampa and I can't wait to see everyone.  I hope you enjoy reading this post and that everyone has a very happy holiday!

Christmas Decorations

Holiday season to me means baking, some more baking, and then maybe a little bit more baking.  I love to make sweets and treats for coworkers, neighbors, and friends & family and they make a simple and quick DIY gift.  Today I am making my Mom's delicious Pumpkin Bread with Raisins. Hmmm so delicious.  Now while I'm baking I love to rock out to some Christmas tunes. My two favorites of the moment are the Christmas with the Rat Pack and the Michael Buble Christmas Album. Have you guys heard Michael's rendition of Santa Baby? Ridiculous, but adorable at the same time.  Now that I have expended all that energy baking away it's time for a nice soothing bubble bath. Around the holiday season I love to stock up on the seasonal bath bombs at Lush. The one pictured above smells divine and is called "GoldenWonder."   Ahhh, I can hear the fizz and smell the citrus champagne scent now. Nothing is more calming than a warm soothing bubble bath and while I'm soaking away I love to light a nice candle.  This one is called "Winter"  (real original Bath & Body Works) and is a blend of pine needles, winter citrus and white woods.

After getting out of a bath I love to the throw on some cozy Pj's and are currently loving the flannel pants from Aerie.  Now it's time to relax and watch a good 'ole classic Christmas movie.  My all-time favorites are Elf, Home Alone 2 and The Santa Clause.  Every year me and my girlfriends have a cookie exchange party and have a tradition of watching The Santa Clause, I could quote that movie for days..."Tinsel, not just for decoration." "We're your worst nightmare.  Elves, with attitude."  And Neil's sweaters?...classic.  Ok, I'm moving on but I 'll admit as a young tween I had the biggest crush on the head elf in that film, sooo embarrassing.  But wait before I throw in the movie I've got to locate my snuggle buddy...Ahh here he is!

The holidays are a great time to have an excuse to go a little overboard with the twinkle lights. As you can see by the picture above, anywhere where I could put twinkle lights they went. And isn't my little tree so cute!  I can't think of a place I'd rather be than snuggled up on the couch with family and friends watching Christmas movies under the glow of twinkle lights.
And now it's time to make a delicious hot drink. I am always in the mood for hot chocolate and it's so easy and quick to make.  I start by heating about 1 cup of almond milk in a small saucepan and when that is ready I whisk in the hot cocoa mix (I love the Williams Sonoma Classic Hot Chocolate,) Once that's ready I pour the mixture into my favorite mug and add some marshmallows and a candy cane for a sugary treat.  I also like to use the candy cane as a stirrer to infuse a touch of peppermint flavor.

So there are my got to activities for getting me in the holiday spirit.  I hope you all are able to spend your holiday with people you love and thanks for stopping by Brazen Brunette, your support means the world to me.  Merry Christmas to everyone and leave me a comment below letting me know what puts you in a festive mood!

Whoa Nelly, BOXYCHARM has out done themselves this month.  Seriously, if you haven’t checked out this company and are into subscription boxes you need to.  I enjoy it so much more than Birchbox and Ipsy, and granted it’s more expensive at $21 a month, but it is so worth it.  You get five full-size products in every box and the majority of the brands they feature are high end.  You get much more bang for your buck, and the products I received in this month’s box were valued at $114!! CLICK HERE to check out their website, you won’t be disappointed.

I also want to take a moment to make the disclaimer that this is not a sponsored post.  I am newer to the blogging world, thus everything that is seen on this blog I have purchased myself.  All opinions are my own and none of these products have been sent to me or are PR samples, etc.  If I ever do use products or services on my blog that fit those criteria it will be disclosed.  Now back to the makeup…

Coastal Scents Revealed Palette

The first thing that caught my eye was the Coastal Scents Revealed Palette.  I couldn’t believe it, were my eyes deceiving me?  We got a whole eyeshadow palette in this box valued at $39.95!  I am stoked.  I’ve heard great things about this palette and that some consider it a dupe for Urban Decay’s Naked Palette.  It contains 20 eyeshadows in mostly neutral tones mixing shimmer shades and mattes.  I can’t wait to try this palette out!

Next are the Lina Lashes Luxury Mink Lashes that are advertised as cruelty free & hypoallergenic and retail for $30.00.  Ok, now I am going to let you in on a little secret...As a beauty blogger this is probably a sin to admit, but I can’t apply lashes to save my life.  The glue, and cutting them, and then trying to take them off = disasterville.  Maybe this pair will change it all for me, I will keep you posted.

I was so excited to see this Mistura Beauty Solutions Retractable Beauty Brush in my box.  I will definitely get a lot of use out of this and it will be perfect for throwing in my bag to touch up my makeup with powder throughout the day.  This brush retails for $19.99.  I heard everyone was getting a Be a Bombshell Lip product in their box this month and I got this lip gloss in Sangria.  Ehh, I’m not really impressed. It’s a super glittery pinky red that leaves sparkles on your lips after it wears off.  Not my really my thing, will probably be giving this one to my younger cousin.

And last but not least I received an Eva NYC Hungry Hair Oil Treatment.  From what I’ve read this is similar to argan oil in that it’s recommended to smooth a couple drops onto wet hair to tame fly aways and frizz and help repair split ends.  I’ll have to see with this one.  My hair is really fine so any heavy oils really weigh it down, but I'm hoping I can make this work if I apply just a tiny amount.

So there are all the products in my BOXYCHARM this month.  I hope you enjoyed this post, and if you aren’t already subscribed to BOXYCHARM I definitely recommend checking them out. Leave me a comment below letting me know if you subscribe to any monthly boxes and which one is your favorite!

Xoxo Nicole

FRIDAY FAVORITE - L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadows

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadows

I have not had very good luck with drugstore eyeshadows, but these beauties are definitely an exception. Retailing for around $7.00 a piece these shadows come in a ton of great colors, they have great pigmentation, and are easy to apply.  The L’Oreal Paris Infallible eyeshadows are shimmery, but not glittery, super creamy and have the consistency of a pressed pigment. I currently own four of these shadows, and describe each shade below.   I have experimented with different brushes, but find the best way to apply these is with your finger and it really does the best job at picking up and transferring the pigment to the lids.  (Although if you want to diffuse color on the lower lash line, these do work well with a pencil brush.) Also, because these are so shimmery there can be a little fall out so I would recommend applying your eyeshadow first and then doing your under eye concealer.  These have great wear, but will last longer with a primer underneath, and all of these colors look best blended out so it’s not such a sharp contrast from the pigment to the rest of the lid. So blend, blend, blend, ladies!

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadows

Amber Rush
This shade can be worn year round, but especially looks great on tanned skin in the summer.  This eyeshadow has a cult following in the beauty world, and is a great universal warm amber shade that will look great on all skin types.  The shade is very versatile and for a soft daytime eye put this all over the lid and then blend with a soft brown in the crease.  This also looks phenomenal on the lower lash line to brighten up the eyes.  A YouTube tutorial by Jacyln Hill features this shadow and I love the look she puts together, CLICK HERE to watch.

Bronzed Taupe
This is a great staple shade that seriously anyone could wear and it’s a good everyday eyeshadow.  What I love about this one is how versatile it is.  I linked a great YouTube tutorial below that features this product as a standalone eye look, but this would also look great all around the eye with black liner for a smokier look.       CLICK HERE

Golden Sage
This is a beautiful muted green that compliments brown eyes really well.  How I like to wear this one: I will do a matte eye with Bobbi Brown Toast in the crease and a matte ivory on the lid.  I then apply brown winged liner and taking a pencil brush apply this shadow on the lower lash line.  Using the shadow this way is more subtle than applying all over the lid and it really makes brown eyes pop.

Liquid Diamond
I usually tend to lean towards warm shadows so I was happy I stepped out of my norm and picked this one up.  And all I could think looking at this shade was how amazing it would be as a new years makeup look!  It’s a gorgeous shimmery silver with lilac undertones.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadows
Something else I love about this product is that they are always coming out with new seasonal colors.  So if you see a color you love, grab it!  (Although, I am almost positive all the colors I mention here are in their permanent line.)  For those of you looking for a frosty champagne shade I would also recommend picking up "Iced Latte." It’ a gorgeous everyday color and I would own this one myself, but already own one too many shadows in the “champagne” family.  You can buy these at Ulta, Target, Wal-Mart or pretty much any drugstore.

Now you know how I love some coupons…so from now until December 24th all L’Oreal cosmetics are buy one get one 50% off at ULTA Beauty and they are also offering a $5 off $10 purchase coupon you can get print off their website or pull up the code on your phone for the cashier to scan at check-out. (Don’t you just love technology.)  So you can get two eyeshadows for around $7.00, such a steal!  For the link to the coupon, CLICK HERE.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Swatches

I hope you guys enjoyed this week’s Friday Favorite and I love featuring a product from the drugstore.  Especially with all that holiday shopping we could afford to save some money this time of year!  Have you tried these eyeshadows?  What are your favorite eyeshadows from the drugstore?  Let me know in the comments below and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
